[Sardinia]A rich series of scarabs in green jasper were produced in Phoenicia through the period of the Persian Empire - late 6th to mid-4th centuries BC, the last of the major scarab series of antiquity apart from the Etruscan. Most have been found in the cemeteries of the Phoenician (Punic) west - at Carthage and on Sardinia and Ibiza, but there are many indications that they derive from the eastern homeland where there has been less excavation of comparable sites.
